On October 22nd at the 4th Annual Rock ’N Road event in Orange, Community Service Programs, Project PATH (CSP-PATH) and the Youth Advisory Board of Orange County (YAB-OC) awarded the Orange Police Department for their efforts to reduce impaired driving.
Award recipients, Officers Andrew Bremer, Justin McGowan, and Kevin Plog, were recognized for having the highest number of impaired driving arrests in the city. Captain Dave Jensen also accepted an award on behalf of the entire Orange Police Department for their collective effort in reducing impaired driving.
“I wanted to recognize the true, everyday heroes that keep my family and me safe,” said Alberto Gomez, who presented the award along with Kathy Gomez. The duo is part of the YAB–OC, which was formed to serve as the youth voice for alcohol and drug prevention efforts in Orange County.
CSP–PATH is a non–profit organization funded by grants through the Orange County Health Care Agency to focus on DUI prevention in the city of Orange. The organization collaborates with the Orange Police Department to provide alcohol and other drug–impaired driving prevention services. They also work with restaurants and bars to teach staff how to serve alcohol responsibly and deal with alcohol–related incidents.
“We wanted to recognize the Orange Police Department because they make such a huge effort to reduce impaired driving in the city,” said Camille Coronel, a Health Educator with CSP–PATH. “In addition to having a special DUI enforcement team, they also make it a priority to focus on impaired driving prevention by providing the community with educational materials during checkpoints and events.”
One of the award recipients, Officer Bremer, is also featured on CSP–PATH’s “17,000 Impaired Drivers” city–wide media campaign.
