Talk of the Towne
2011 Plaza Car Show

Calling all cars! The 17th Annual Orange Plaza Car Show promises to be bigger and better than ever, with 425 vintage street rods and custom or classic vehicles on display throughout the Plaza.

Attracting more than 20,000 attendees last year, the colorful show, hosted by Orange Sunrise Rotary, takes place Sunday, April 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free for spectators.

According to event co–chair Rae Shirer, the show has become one of the city’s premier events and is the primary fundraiser for Orange Sunrise Rotary. Major sponsors include Selman Chevrolet Co., Orange Community Bank, and Oxygen Service Company.

“The event draws from the local community and beyond, and has become a prestigious show within the hot rod and street rod communities,” said Rae, who has helped spearhead the event for the last seven years, and also served as past president of Orange Sunrise Rotary.

“Proceeds go toward all of our organization’s service activities in the city and internationally.”

Local projects of Orange Sunrise Rotary include support of the Orange Public Library and History Center; academic scholarships for local students who compete in the club’s speech contest and schoolbook donations to children in the El Modena area.

Comprised of professional men and women who volunteer their time to help improve the quality of life for local and world communities, Orange Sunrise Rotary Club represents a cross–section of area business and professional leaders. The group meets every Wednesday at 5:30 pm. at the Grand Street Center in Old Towne.

Recently, members of Orange Sunrise Rotary planted 15 Western sycamores at Irvine Park. The organization also supports a student service club at El Modena High School.
