Lights, camera, action! Portrait photography for families just got a lot more exciting with the recent opening of As Cute As It Gets, located at 160 North Glassell.
Old Towne resident Dove Thiselton opened the studio in early August after nine years operating the business from home. Its the first retail location for the Chapman grad and mom, who first ventured into themed portraits when her son was younger.
I was into taking cute pictures of him, but most of the photo studios didnt do themes, and they didnt work well with children, said Dove. It got to the point where Id bring my own props and costumes to the studios and create my own sets.
Dove soon realized she could start her own home studio for family and friends. It wasnt long before she developed a clientele, thanks to her inventory of handmade outfits and animated sets, plus myriad holiday and customdesigned themes.
Creating an interactive, playful environment for children to revel in, Dove is able to capture the perfect moment in time on camera.
Its all about the experience, said Dove. If a child is delighted, it will show on his or her face. My goal is to get that true laugh that turns into a true smile.
Themed sets include everything from mermaids and fairies to pirates and firefighters. For the holidays, Dove welcomes pets to the studio, where families can pose with their dog on an adorable sledding set. Other yuletide themes include snowflakes, snow globes and beachy sandman designs all popular with families looking for that unique Christmas card photo.
Dove is committed to the finished product and wont let a client leave until they obtain exactly what they are looking for.
Having always dreamed of owning her own studio in Old Towne, Dove can still hardly believe her good fortune.
Every day when I leave the studio, I deliberately turn right so I can feel the thrill of looking at the front of my store. I cant stop smiling!
