Spring is here and outdoor play and sports are front and center for most school-aged children. With any team or contact sport, it is important to ensure that kids’ teeth are protected from injury with a mouthguard.

Mouthguards are important to use for a wide variety of active sports, such as football, soccer, skateboarding and baseball. Mouthguards not only protect the teeth, they act as shock absorbers and can reduce concussions and injuries to the jaw joints. Children who engage in sports are 60 times more likely to suffer damage to the mouth when not wearing a well-fitting protective mouthguard, according to the National Youth Sports Foundation for the Prevention of Athletic Injuries.

Dr. Correa recommends a custom mouthguard specifically made for the sport in which your child participates, because certain sports require different levels of protective material in a mouthguard. These mouthguards can be made in the child’s team color and personalized with his or her name, making the mouthguard fun and cool to wear!

As a service to our community, for a limited time Dr. Correa will provide free mouthguards to youth sports teams and any children engaged in contact sports. Call for more details!
