Back in the Fall of 2012, I had a contest for the best new addition to our Country Roads logo. There were so many great choices from which to choose. Then I received an email one morning from a customer named Angela Hammel. She didnt have an addition to the logo for me, but what she did have was so much more meaningful. It was a poem about shopping at Country Roads with her Mom. I hope you enjoy the poem as much as I did and still do…
My Twenty Years at Country Roads
By Angie Hamel
Ive been strolling down those Country Roads since 1993,
Would stop for lunch then swing on by
Whenever I was free.
The garden would inspire me, Id stroll from vine to pot,
A weird plant may have just arrived
Ill find a perfect spot!
Then in Id stroll thru days gone by, those memories…they come back,
Of ornaments and home decor
And oh that perfect flower sack!
I had a doll, I had that book, a smile comes to my face,
Remembering the happy times
I knew a slower pace.
Id meet my mom and hand-in-hand, we look around the store,
Remember that?...Lets take it home!
And then wed search for more.
Wed search for things we had to have,
Our hearts were filled with joy of days gone by,
Wed cook and sew and loved our favorite toy.
Well, Mom is gone, passed on last year
Fond memories still exist of Country Roads and
Mom and me, shes so greatly missed.
But here I am, right back in Orange
To Country Roads Id go
Lets see what I can find this time, gee whiz…ya never know!!
In Memory of Susan Marie Hamel
December 1st, 1929 – November 19, 2012
This poem, my customers comments to me at the store, and just the smiles and laughter I share with everyone at Country Roads, reassures me that I will be in love with this little store of mine for the next 20 years. Thanks to all of you who made a dream of mine be more than I ever thought it could be!
